Okay, so youve already made a ribbon dispenser from a baby wipes container, and youve probably used the containers to hold all sorts of small toys and things, but what do you do with the next empty baby wipes container? Make a purse, of course! Its easy to make a fur purse for your little girl, and shell love it so much, shell want you to make more purses in other colors.
Baby wipe containers, the ones that are made like a tub rather than a cannister, are perfect for the purse project. The tub containers have a top that opens all the way up, along with a second, smaller lid, which allows you to dispense just one or two of the wipes. Its important that the baby wipes container you choose has a lid that will open all the way up. The secondary lid is unimportant.
Your local fabric store should have a selection of fake fur fabric from which to choose. The fabric is often available in white, black, brown and even zebra stripes. The fur is perfect for covering the baby wipes container. Fur goes on easily and is very forgiving. Mistakes dont stand out like sore thumbs when you work with fur. The first order of business is to cut a piece of fur equal to the size of the bottom of the baby wipes container. Spray adhesive allows you to attach the fur quickly and with ease. It dries fast and will let you move on to the next stage quickly. After the bottom fur piece is set youll then measure and cut the piece that will cover all four sides of the container. Baby wipe tub-type containers are generally larger around the top than they are around the bottom. This could mean youll have a little difficulty in gluing on the side piece. Youll have to create small puckers around the bottom of the container to make the top fit well. The puckers are virtually unnoticeable because of the fur. When adding the fur to the sides of the container have the lid open. That way youll be able to see how far up you can take the fur. After the bottom and sides are finished you can then cover the top of the container. A piece of fur is cut and will cover the entire top. If you want you can glue on a piece of roping, around the perimeter of the lid, to help conceal the raw edges of the fur. Make sure the lid can still close once you apply the roping. Although the purse can be used without a lining inside its nice if you do add a lining. The lining will not only make the inside look nicer but it will also reduce the sound of things rolling around inside. The lining can be created out of satin, linen or other thin fabrics. Create the lining by cutting a rectangular piece the size of the bottom of the container. Also cut a long piece of fabric which is sufficient enough to wrap all the way around the container. The piece should also be wide enough to cover from the bottom side of the container to the top side. Stitch the long piece around the rectangular piece and sew together the seam when youre finished. Position the lining inside the purse before adding the fur to the outside of the baby wipes containers. Trim the lining, if needed, after gluing it to the inside of the container. Poke a hole on each short side of the container pushing through the fur as well as the plastic container. Cut a length of roping or cord to make a purse strap. Push each rope end through one of the holes then tie the end in a knot. The rope can be colorful or can be ordinary rope from a hardware store. You can also use ribbon or braided yarn as the purse strap. Your little girl will love her new, unique purse and will likely want you to make more purses in different colors. When she carries the purse to school and church dont be surprised when her friends mothers start asking you to teach them how to make them. You - and your girl - will absolutely love this project!
